Tile must be done correctly in order for it to look right. The floor must be prepared correctly in order for the tile to go down flat and true. Prepared correctly means that the floor levels are flat and smooth and that there are no humps or dips or anything sticking up from the surface. The preparatory work is the most important step, because if you do not have a good sub-floor, the tile will not lay out correctly.
The tile must be laid correctly, even if the floor is prepared correctly, or it will not be flat and true. In order to lay it correctly you must know how to do a “layout” in order to not end up with a thin strip or small piece of tile on one edge. A “layout” is sort of like it sounds; you “lay” the tile “out” on the floor. This is either done on the floor with pencil or crayon or on a piece of paper so you know what the tile will look like before you even start to mix any floor laying compound. You must do a correct layout in order for the lines between the tiles to look good.
Once tile is laid and the cement is set, it is very, very costly to remove and redo the tile.
I cannot overstate the importance of this. I have gone through the whole gamut of bad tile layers. I used to think that you couldn’t go wrong with tile. I mean the tile has spacers and if you use them how can you go wrong!?!? As long as the floor is flat . . . the tiles should be flat . . . what’s the problem?!?!
There are so many things about tile that are so important that you must hire someone that really knows what they are doing if you want to have a showpiece tile job. I use nothing but tile pros that do a professional job.
If how the tiles look after they are laid and done is important to you, give me a call and we can get you set up and get your project started.
Let me know if you have any questions or want to get a job started
